The 63rd Annual Alabama Transportation Conference was held February 11th-12th in Montgomery, AL. The overwhelming attendance appeared to be close to 1,000. Giving the keynote address was Shailen Bhatt,  President of Intelligent Transportation Society of America. Mr. Bhatt spoke on intelligent transportation systems and the need to keep pushing intelligent designs for our infrastructure. Following Mr. Bhatt’s presentation was Tim McCarthy, Chairman of the Alabama Workforce Council. Mr. McCarty provided an overview of Alabama’s workforce development programs and what they would like to achieve with the future labor pool. As most industries that rely on skilled labor understand, finding qualified workers is a challenge now and will continue in the future. Alabama’s Workforce Development program will go a long way in addressing this need. Again this year, the conference featured trade exhibitors which spanned across all the transportation sectors. The addition of the exhibitors added to the networking aspect of the conference. The conference next year will be held on February 9th-10th, 2021.
