United States Transportation Secretary Elane Chao has approved the award of an Accelerated Innovation Deployment (AID) Demonstration to the Alabama Department of Transportation (recipient) and the Baldwin County Highway Department (sub-recipient) in the amount of $1,000,000 for the design, construction, and inspection of a NEXT beam / ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) bridge retrofit project in Baldwin County.
In addition, the Dunlap Road NEXT Beam Bridge designed by ALDOT has been awarded to McInnis Construction. According to Junnie Ellis, Project Manager for McInnis, construction is slated to start in February 2020. PCI Gulf South producer member Forterra will be producing the NEXT beams for the project. Also of note, this project will be the first ALDOT designed NEXT beam bridge constructed in the state.
