The ASCE Gulf Coast Student Symposium is held every year within the PCI Gulf South Region (Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana) and normally garners over 400 students. After a break for the recent pandemic, this year’s event enjoyed over 300 students at the Auburn University campus for the three day sponsored competition. The competition included activities such as the concrete canoe, steel bridge, surveying and concrete beam. Students networked, played games, competed, listened to live bands and enjoyed the beautiful Auburn weather. PCI Gulf South had the honor of judging the Construction Competition which featured a project from Reston, VA. PCI Georgia/Carolina’s Executive Director, Ray Clark also volunteered to help with the festivities. One highlight was a visit to Auburn University's newly built Advanced Structural Engineering Laboratory where many of the steel and concrete competitions were held. Thank you Dr. Schindler for giving us a tour of your wonderful testing facility. A great learning experience for both students and volunteers, next year's Symposium will be held in Mobile, AL at the University of South Alabama's campus.
