As part of the ongoing PCI Foundation studio activities, students from Tulane University School of Architecture recently visited the Boykin Brothers Precast plant in Baton Rouge, LA. The students were given an overview of the Boykin Brothers precast operation from Jeff Boykin, Chief Administrative Officer, as well as a presentation on Precast 101 from Dan Eckenrode, PCI Gulf South. The visit allowed for firsthand observation of precast operations with the ability to ask questions and further the understanding of the processes involved in manufacturing precast concrete components. During the visit, the students observed the casting beds, mixer facility and QC Lab. Opportunities such as this allow students to step out of the classroom and experience the “hands on” side of the building industry. Tulane would like to extend a special THANK YOU to Jeff Boykin and all the Boykin Brothers plant personnel for taking the time to share their expertise with future industry professionals.
